Commando Steve is a highly qualified fitness coach and former Team Commander with the Australian Special Forces. With his signature dark sunglasses, black T-shirt and combat fatigues Commando Steve has become a familiar face on Australian television since putting contestants through their paces as a trainer on Channel Ten’s ‘Australia’s Biggest Loser’. Steve has motivated, inspired and pushed contestants to levels of physical and mental fitness they never dreamed possible.

The skills he had acquired in the army translated well to this new career, and he made it his goal to help others transform their lives through training. He started his own gym with a team of trainers certified in the CrossFit method of training. Steve gets an incredible amount of personal satisfaction seeing his clients transform physically and mentally as they work their way through the training process. And as always, he leads by example, training and competing in CrossFit competitions around the world.

Steve has developed a unique and effective way of training. He calls it Commando Fit. The Commando Fit philosophy uniquely brings together the principles of CrossFit and years of military training. A philosophy built around mental strength and physical endurance; balance of body and mind. Add to this, an uncompromising attitude of never giving up. What is /
CrossFit?

The definition of CrossFit is "Constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement." Always changing the workouts, never letting your body adapt. This is why CrossFit is great for getting results. Your body never gets used to anything, so you never reach those plateaus.

Intensity is synonymous with Power (Force multiplied by Distance divided by Time). This translates into exercise by converting it to: the load, multiplied by the bar path/movement, divided by the time. In basic language we are saying power/intensity is how much weight you can move over the longest distance in the shortest amount of time, while of course maintaining proper form and technique.

Functional movement is the movements humans were built for. Movements that are natural and safe. Movements we use in everyday life such as squating, deadlifting and pulling yourself up.

These are movements that promote neurological and hormonal responses, leading to better health, actual strength, actual core stability, agility, and flexibility. 

Steve believes CrossFit is elite fitness for everyone – from those merely interested in general fitness to well-trained athletes. CrossFit truly prepares you for any situation in your daily life.  Workouts are typically short—20 minutes or less—and intense, demanding all-out physical exertion.

The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store, and utilise energy. Being able to do a large number of reps while sustaining your effort is a key CrossFit skill, testing how long you can endure a workout.

The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force. CrossFit isn't just about how much you can lift, but how effectively and accurately you can apply force in different exercises.

The Biggest Loser is a reality television show which started in the U.S. in 2004, with Commando Steve starring in the Australian version. The show centers on overweight contestants attempting to lose the most weight and to fight for a cash prize. With his signature dark sunglasses, black T-shirt and combat fatigues Steve Willis (or Commando Steve as he is better known) has become a familiar face on Australian television since putting contestants through their paces as a trainer on series two of Channel Ten’s ‘Australia’s Biggest Loser’. Since then, Steve has motivated, inspired and pushed contestants to levels of physical and mental fitness they never dreamed possible.
