“I have just completed the Commando Steve Coffs Harbour Challenge and yet "thank you for the opportunity" just doesn't seem to express just how much gratitude I am feeling. I have been uplifted, motivated and empowered so much, and yet I only got to meet you briefly. A testament to just how much you can influence and change peoples lives for the better. Eighteen months ago I was diagnosed with my second auto immune disease, Myasthenia Gravis. A neuromuscular disease that effects the use of muscles. Normal communication between the nerve & the muscle is interrupted, leaving the muscles weak & fatigued. So I set myself a challenge to not let the disease control me, and I made a promise to myself as much as I could, I would fight the disease. So a new challenge was set & that was to undertake a training session with the Commando and go the distance. If I could take on you, I could take on anything. Nervous much...well lets just say when you ran out onto the beach, the tears started to roll down my cheeks. Had I set the bar too high? My doctors had been warning me I was pushing too hard. But I knew my body, I was mentally strong & this was a challenge I had set. If I could go up against the Commando & last, then I was taking back control. Well I lasted the distance and apart from bruised knees my body felt great. I came, I conquered & I am still smiling. So once again Steve, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for coming to Coffs & allowing me the opportunity to participate in one of your sessions. It has given me more than enough motivation to continue the challenges I seem to set myself, and most importantly not let my illness control me.
Hopefully, I will see you again there next year :) You may not be able to put a face to the name but I was with the Functional Habits group from Grafton. I had the "Burpees for Bubs" singlet on and you so kindly signed your book for me after the session. Take care & train hard!
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.
